Quick facts

01

SSH collection without a remote agent

The desktop app connects to the server’s existing SSH service and runs status queries. No additional resident collector is installed; SSH connections and queries still use resources.

02

Current Linux server metrics in one view

View CPU, memory, root filesystem usage, network transfer rates, uptime, basic hardware information and busy processes. Available metrics depend on remote commands and read permissions.

03

Saved hosts in a shared workspace

Save an address, port and username for each host. Edit or reorder profiles and switch between the fleet overview and host details. Saved profiles and active monitoring allowances are separate.

04

Move from metrics to an interactive SSH terminal

Open an SSH PTY for a connected host while retaining compact metrics. Terminal commands run with that SSH user’s permissions.

05

Passwords or explicitly selected private keys

Enter connection details, choose password or private-key authentication, verify the host fingerprint and test the connection. The profile is saved after a successful connection.

06

Remembered SSH credentials are encrypted locally

Remembered passwords and keys are encrypted using operating-system secure storage. SSH credentials are not uploaded to Shellivo; if secure storage is unavailable, turn off credential persistence.

07

Pinned fingerprints block unexpected host changes

After initial confirmation, the fingerprint is pinned to the host and port. A later mismatch stops the connection before SSH authentication; verify the server’s identity before proceeding.

08

macOS and Windows, with four platform builds

DMGs are available for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, with portable ZIPs for Windows x64 and ARM64. Choose the preview build matching your operating system and processor.

Who it is for / Who it is not for

A good fit if

  • Independent developers checking one or several Linux servers from their own computer.
  • Operators who want to investigate a resource issue in the same host’s terminal.
  • People with working SSH access who want to avoid installing and maintaining an additional collector.
  • Users who prefer local SSH credential storage and can verify first-use host fingerprints.

Look further if

  • Teams needing round-the-clock collection, long-term reports or central alerts while their computer is offline.
  • Teams needing log search, application tracing, automated deployment, AI operations or automatic remediation.
  • Hosts without reachable SSH access or users without permission to read the required system information.
  • You need a client for a Linux desktop, phone or tablet; the desktop client currently offers macOS and Windows builds.

How it works

  1. 01

    Add a server and authentication

Enter a recognizable name, server address, SSH port and username, then provide a password or explicitly select a private key. Create a separate connection profile for each server.

  2. 02

Verify the fingerprint and test the connection

On first use, compare the displayed fingerprint with a trusted source such as your server administration console, then confirm the connection. A successful authentication saves the profile; credential persistence is optional.

  3. 03

Review live metrics and the fleet overview

Keep the desktop app and SSH connection running to review CPU, memory, root disk, network and process changes. For connection or collection errors, check connectivity, SSH permissions and remote command availability.

  4. 04

    Open a terminal to investigate

Open the connected server’s interactive terminal and run your own commands beside compact metrics. Close the terminal or disconnect the host when finished.

Technical facts and security boundaries

Collection method and operating scope

The current collector targets Linux and reads status using /proc, df and ps. Collection runs approximately every three seconds by default, subject to network and command latency. Collection stops when the app closes or the connection ends; long-term history and central alerts are not provided.

Local credentials and platform account data

The desktop app uses SSH passwords and keys; remembered credentials are encrypted locally and are not sent to platform servers. Website sign-in still processes account and session data. Local encryption does not protect an already compromised computer or replace operating-system account security.

Host identity and terminal permissions

Fingerprint checks identify the connection target, but you must verify the initial fingerprint. A changed fingerprint blocks authentication; do not trust a replacement merely to clear an error. The terminal is a real remote session, and commands you enter can modify server data.

Active monitoring and terminal limits

Desktop guests can monitor one host at a time and signed-in Free accounts can monitor two. Standard supports five concurrent servers; Expert has no product-level monitoring cap, but local and remote resources still impose limits. Up to 12 terminals can be open at once. Frequently asked questions

Can I inspect CPU and memory alongside an SSH terminal?

Yes. shellivo combines a host resource view with its interactive SSH terminal so you can inspect status and then run diagnostic commands. Available metrics depend on the remote system, commands and account permissions.

Is it useful for just one server?

Yes. Guest mode supports one active host and keeps metrics beside the terminal, without requiring a central monitoring deployment.

Do I need connection details for every server?

Each server needs its address, port, username and a working password or private key. SSH commonly uses port 22, but use your server’s actual setting. Profiles can be saved after a successful connection, with optional credential persistence.

Does the server need an agent or another monitoring port?

No additional resident agent or dedicated monitoring port is needed. Existing SSH must be reachable from your computer, and the remote host must provide the Linux system information and commands used by the collector.

Which metrics can I see?

Metrics include CPU, memory, root filesystem usage, network transfer rates, uptime, basic hardware information and busy processes. This is not a comprehensive view of every disk, container or application-internal metric.

Are passwords or private keys uploaded to the website?

No. SSH connections originate directly from the desktop app, and remembered SSH credentials are encrypted locally. Website account and session data follow a separate flow; keeping SSH credentials local does not mean the entire product works offline.

Will monitoring continue after my computer shuts down?

No. Collection depends on the running desktop app and an active SSH connection. For round-the-clock collection, historical analysis or alerts while your computer is offline, use a monitoring service with those capabilities.

Which computers can run it today?

Preview builds are available for Apple Silicon Macs, Intel Macs, Windows x64 and Windows ARM64. Choose the matching version in Downloads. The desktop client manages and monitors Linux servers over SSH.

Do I need an account to try it?

The desktop app supports guest use with one active server. Website sign-in is available through Google or an email verification code. A signed-in desktop Free account can monitor two servers at once.

Can I buy Pro, pay monthly or enable auto-renewal now?

Yes. Sign in to purchase Standard or Expert through Stripe, billed monthly or annually. By default, you buy a single term without automatic renewal. Recurring charges apply only when you explicitly enable automatic renewal. Stripe processes payment securely, and account access is delivered after server-side payment verification.
