A menu bar tool can suit quick status glances; a desktop workspace suits metric inspection followed by SSH commands. Alerts that must continue after your Mac shuts down require an independently running service. shellivo offers the desktop workflow; it is not presented here as a menu bar app.
Start with what you need to do next
| Your task | Consider first | Verify |
|---|---|---|
| Glance at current status | A compact or menu bar tool | Remote-host support, not only local Mac metrics |
| Inspect metrics and run commands | A monitoring and SSH workspace | Host identity and context while switching to a terminal |
| Unattended collection and alerts | A continuously running monitoring service | Sleep, disconnection, retention and notification behavior |
When shellivo fits
If you already have Linux SSH access and want CPU, memory, disk and network readings followed by a terminal on the same host, shellivo matches that workflow. Check Downloads for currently released platforms and packages.
A smaller interface does not imply equivalent monitoring
A menu bar icon, a small desktop window and continued operation after a window closes are different capabilities. Verify remote collection, retention, alerts and behavior after exiting the client independently; appearance does not establish feature support.
Try each tool with the same task
- Add an authorized test host and verify its fingerprint and sample time.
- Find a resource reading to investigate and check how easily you return to the correct host.
- If you need a terminal, check access to it; if you need alerts, verify configuration and operating conditions.
- Choose by task completion rather than treating the word lightweight as a measured result.
